I've always been interested in the size or scale of paintings. I think small paintings are engaging because its possible to see their entirety and close-up, they delight with immediacy and intimacy. Artists like Van Eyck, Vermeer, Chardin, Vuillard, Freud, Diebenkorn, Gillespie and countless others have recognized the virtues of painting small works. For collectors, they may be affordable, easily transported, and most importantly, memorable.
